Siapkan model yang akan dibuat duplikatnya terlebih dahulu. Model bisa terbuat dari apa saja, misalnya : lilin, plaster, concrete, resin, kayu, logam, plastik, porcelain, ceramic, kaca, batu alam, maupun dari bahan silicone rubber itu sendiri. Kemudian model dibersihkan. Bagian model yang rusak ditutup dengan filler (plasticine).
